Meet the speakers

Sue de Beivre (Co-founder & CEO)

As the co-founder and CEO of Plugin Accountant, Sue leveraged the state-of-the-art digital accountancy technology developed at Beany, a company she co-founded in 2014. Over nine years, she led Beany through five capital raises and expanded its operations into three countries.

Originally qualifying as a Chartered Accountant with Deloitte in the UK in 1989 and working for The Audit Commission, Sue has a rich history of entrepreneurial success. She founded and exited her first startup in 1993 and successfully launched and sold an accountancy business in 2007.

After emigrating to New Zealand in 1995 and working as a Chartered Accountant, Sue diversified her entrepreneurial ventures, starting businesses in the hospitality, finance, and import sectors.

John Curtis (Co-Founder & CTO)

As the Chief Technology Officer at Plugin Accountant, he spearheaded the 2023 launch of Plugin Accountant to commercialise a novel software solution for accountants, building on his role at Beany — an entirely cloud-based accountancy firm that has seen expansion into three countries since 2014.

With a diverse background, including developing VR applications for plant canopy analysis and pioneering some of New Zealand’s first websites and CD-ROMs with Stimulus (NZ) Ltd, which he co-founded in 1994.

Additionally, he spent a decade at Weta Digital, contributing to blockbuster productions like ‘The Lord of the Rings’ and ‘Avatar’ as a Motion Picture Pipeline Engineer.
